Who does acne affect?

Acne can affect people of all ages, although it often occurs in younger people the most.

It can pop up on the face, but also on the chest, neck, shoulders, scalp and back as well. While acne is not life-threatening, it can have a significant impact on social comfort, well being and positive self-esteem. At Total Glow, our Palo Alto wellness center, we take acne very seriously and have designed several skincare regimens to get at the heart of the problem and solve it holistically from the inside out.

What is acne?

When the sebaceous glands within hair follicles become clogged with oil, bacteria begins to build up, causing a breakout. Thus acne is a chronic inflammation of the sebaceous glands. It can be difficult to treat. Topical products may further irritate the skin, while oral medications can harm the stomach. Non-invasive solutions at a med spa are often more expensive up front, but in the long run these options save time, money and suffering.

What are acne scars?

Once the pimple has run its course, it often leaves in its wake a dark scar that may be raised and bumpy, or it maybe concave and depressed. Acne scars can cause a lot of self-consciousness for the client, especially when they cover the face. They are hard to cover with makeup, and hiding them may become a preoccupation for some clients.
