Kybella typically involves approximately 20 to 30 injections, though some clients receive as many as 50. The number of injections and the total number of Kybella sessions needed to achieve the desired results is dependent on the amount of submental fat present before treatment. You can receive up to six Kybella treatments spaced one month apart to realize the best results that Kybella has to offer.
Your Double Chin Reduction results will develop gradually as the destroyed fat cells are processed and eliminated by your body’s lymphatic system. Your full results will become visible about four to six weeks after treatment. Since the body cannot replace destroyed fat cells, your Kybella results are permanent. However, the remaining fat cells in the treatment area will continue to swell and shrink naturally with weight change. Therefore, the best way to maintain your Kybella results is with a healthy and consistent lifestyle.
Like any procedure, Kybella does carry some risks and side effects. The most common side effects include swelling, redness, bruising, numbness, discomfort, itching, nausea, headache, and hardening around injection sites. Serious side effects, which are rare but require medical treatment, include trouble eating or swallowing, unevenness in the face, muscle weakness in the face, severe bruising, ulcers, open sores, hair loss at the injection site, and infection.
While swelling and mild bruising around injection sites are expected side effects of Kybella, there are some things you can do to minimize these conditions. After your treatment, you may use ice to reduce swelling and discomfort. In the first few days after treatment, warm compresses can also help healing. A chin strap and over-the-counter pain medications can also help reduce swelling and discomfort. Also, massaging the treatment area can promote healing.
Candidates for Kybella are generally healthy men and women with excess submental fat. While Kybella effectively treats moderate to severe fat beneath the chin, clients with minimal excess submental fat are less likely to realize significant improvement of their concerns with Kybella. Kybella candidates should understand that their results will take some time to develop and have reasonable expectations for their treatment outcome. Kybella is not an ideal treatment option for clients who anticipate significant weight change or who are allergic to Kybella ingredients.
